New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS) Terrorists are “now using adopting the most modern means of communication”, Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh said Wednesday.

Terrorist groups were also making rampant use of cyber space andsocial networking sites to carry out terror attacks, the minister told the Rajya Sabha.

“Various methods are being used by cyber terrorists such as email for communications, posting and hosting of provocative clips, photographs, morphed images and content on social networking sites for inciting violence, disturbing public order and malicious propaganda,” he said.

He said the cyber terrorists also took to phishing and identity theft for financial frauds, attacks on online services and creation of malicious code to compromise computers.

“However, the basic infrastructure, including use of explosive substances for fabrication of bombs, largely remains the same,” the minister said in a statement.

He said the government had taken a series of measures to train police personnel and enforcement agencies to deal with cyber terrorism.

Peshawar airport rocket fire kills four in Pakistan

Taliban militants have launched a rocket attack on Peshawar airport in north-west Pakistan, killing at least four civilians, officials say.

More than 30 others were injured as the rockets landed in residential areas close to the airport.

A spokesman for the Taliban told the BBC they had carried out the attack.

Women and children are thought to be among the casualties. Peshawar lies on the edge of Pakistan’s tribal region, the major sanctuary for militants.

It is believed security forces fired back after the militants launched Saturday’s rocket attack.

Peshawar has seen frequent bomb and gun attacks by militant groups in recent years, although assaults on the airport are rare.

Security there is usually extremely tight.

The airport is used as a base by the Pakistan Air Force as well as for commercial flights. It is not clear if the militants entered the airport.
